In Memory of Ram Shalom
December 9, 1998 – October 7, 2023
“If it makes you feel good –
it already warms my heart.”
Ram (Ramchuk), son of Nurit Mazal and
the late Dan Shalom.
He was the youngest child, a brother to Tom.
At the age of 14, he lost his father, but despite
the sorrow and pain, he always kept a smile,
radiating light and joy around him.
He knew how to appreciate and enjoy
the smallest things in life.
He was loved and surrounded by friends,
possessing a huge heart full of giving and compassion.

Ram's Life and Legacy
Ram grew up and was educated in Jerusalem.
He played soccer from first grade until his enlistment, belonging to local teams.
Prior to his military service, he debated enlisting as an “Outstanding Athlete,” but chose to be a combat soldier.
He served in Battalion 890 of the Paratroopers Brigade as an outstanding combat soldier, completing squad commanders and senior sergeants courses.
His commanders wanted him to stay in the permanent army, but out of love for his mother, he chose to be discharged.
After his discharge, he explored the world, traveling to South America, visiting his brother in Miami, and dreamed of studying electrical engineering.
He cared for the homeless, always aimed to do good, judged everyone favorably, and never engaged in gossip.
He was loved and surrounded by friends, possessing a huge heart full of giving and compassion.
When asked for something, he used to say: “If it makes you feel good – it already warms my heart.”
October 7, 2023
On Saturday, October 7, 2023, at 6:30 in the morning, Hamas terrorist organization launched a surprise attack on Israel.
Ram was attending the “Supernova” music festival near Kibbutz Re’im with ten friends, including his childhood best friend, Idan Dor.
Under the cover of massive rocket and missile fire from the Gaza Strip to vast areas across the country, thousands of terrorists infiltrated Israel.
When the rocket attack began, they tried to find shelter, but upon realizing that terrorists had infiltrated the festival grounds, they tried to escape.
At 8:08, Ram sent his mother a message: “Mom.”
When she called him, he told her: “Don’t worry, we’re in the car on the way home,” and the call disconnected.
At 9:30, the last call took place with Idan, who shared that they were hiding.
Ram and Idan were murdered that day.
For five days, the family did not know what had happened to Ram and clung to the hope that he was still hiding in the fields.
Investigators shared with the family that the two stayed to protect their friends, snatched weapons from terrorists and fell fighting.
Hundreds of festival attendees were murdered that day, and dozens were abducted.
Ram (Ramchuk) Shalom was 24 years old when he was murdered. He was laid to rest in the Givat Shaul cemetery, Jerusalem.
He left behind a mother, a brother, a grandmother, and many loving friends.
On his tombstone, the family engraved the words:
“A charming young man, of noble spirit, pure of eyes and heart.
A magnificent son, brother, and grandson, good and benevolent to all, merciful and compassionate, a lover of peace and people, and beloved by everyone.
In his absence, our world is deeply lacking.”
A Song Ram Loved
Canaanite Blues | Ehud Banai
This touching song describes a deep sense of longing for a dear person who has passed away. It contrasts the fast, chaotic pace of life with an eternal memory of tranquility, expressing how that person's light and spirit continue to shine even in the darkness.
"Since you left, the darkness grows stronger here Your light is still shining bright"
